Range of bearing accessories in the BGL production programme
BGL has been producing reliable and unique fastening elements and mounting accessories for industrial bearings for over 66 years. The company's standard nomenclature includes the following product lines:
Adapter sleeves of the H, HE, HA, HS series
Adapter sleeves are used to secure bearings with a tapered bore on a cylindrical shaft (with maximum tolerance h10) without a stop. They are easy to fit and do not need to be additionally secured to the shaft. An adapter sleeve set consists of three components: a sleeve, a locknut and a lock washer or MS locking clip. The bearings can be mounted anywhere on a smooth shaft.
Hydraulic adapter sleeves from the OH... H
Hydraulic adapter sleeves have the same dimensions as standard sleeves, but are provided with an oil channel on the threaded side and grooves on the outer surface for oil injection (also on the inside on request), which facilitates assembly and especially disassembly of the bearings. Hydraulic adapter sleeves are recommended for shafts from a diameter of 140 mm or bearings from an internal diameter of 160 mm.
BGL manufactures adapter sleeves in this series with metric dimensions in accordance with ISO 2982-1 (DIN 5415) and inch dimensions in accordance with ANSI/ABMA Std. 8.2 standards. Standard collets with metric dimensions are designed for shafts with diameters from 17 mm to 1000 mm and inch dimensions from 5/8" to 18.1/2". The adapter sleeves are supplied with lock nuts and lock washers.
Withdrawal sleeves of the AH, AHX series
Although it sounds misleading, withdrawal sleeves are used to mount bearings with tapered bores on cylindrical seats of the stepped shaft. The shaft must be threaded to allow the lock nut to press the sleeve against the bearing and shoulder. When installing the bearing, the sleeve is pressed into the tapered bore of the inner ring of the bearing. The sleeve is secured to the shaft by means of a locking nut or an end plate at the end of the shaft. The withdrawal sleeve is a tool for dismounting the bearing, the thread of the sleeve makes this possible. The sleeve accessories include a lock nut, a lock washer and a removable nut, all of which must be ordered separately.
Hydraulic withdrawal sleeves of the AOH, AOHX series
Hydraulic withdrawal sleeves have the same dimensions as standard sleeves, but are provided with internal and external grooves and injection channels on the side of the sleeve to facilitate assembly and disassembly of the bearings. They are recommended for shafts with a diameter from 150 mm or bearings with an internal diameter from 160 mm.
Locknuts from the KM, KML, HM, HMT, HML series
These locknuts not only serve as sleeve accessories, but also have their own applications. For example, they are used to secure bearings, gears and pulleys to the ends of shafts. BGL's locknuts are subject to strict measurements according to international standards to ensure assembly with the required precision. Manufactured from a high-strength spheroidal graphite cast iron alloy, they can be tightened with less force due to the graphite they contain. They also reduce the risk of jamming over time and use. Locking with MB lock washers or MS locking clips is required.
Locknuts KMP, KMFE, ZM
These three series of locknuts are structurally similar due to the presence of external slots. These slots allow the nuts to be tightened with a hook spanner and fixed precisely to the shaft or sleeve threads using the continuous radial fixing screws with brass pins (KMP and ZM) or just screws (KMFE) with a threaded profile at the end. It is not necessary to use lock washers or slots on the shaft.
Locknuts KMFE are usually used to mount sealed rolling bearings on the shaft end. For adapter sleeves with an E suffix in the designation, the KMFE version is used instead of KM locknuts. They should be tightened with a hook spanner. Nuts are fixed by radially arranged grub screws when they are screwed in by pressing some threads at the end of the screw against the threads of the shaft. The use of lock washers or other fastening components is not required.
Locknuts of the HMZ series
The HMZ shaft locknuts enable precise and secure axial fastening of bearings on cylindrical and tapered shafts or on adapter sleeves. In contrast to conventional locknuts HM and KM, they are not secured by positive locking using lock washers or locking brackets, but by frictional locking. Four or eight axial clamping screws allow the thread flanks to be clamped evenly around the circumference. The grooves on the outer diameter of the nut have been removed. To screw the nut onto the shaft thread, there are four or eight threaded holes on the nut circumference into which the supplied threaded rod is screwed.
A shaft onto which an HMZ shaft locknut is screwed does not require a retaining groove. This makes it cheaper and stronger than a shaft with a retaining groove for retaining plates or retaining brackets. The locknuts are made of steel and have a tensile strength of at least 350 N/mm2.
Precision nuts of the KMT, KMTA series
Precision nuts are used in applications where maximum precision is required, such as in lathes, grinding machines, milling machines and spindles in general. These nuts have three angularly distributed brass pins that are pressed against the shaft with screws. The inclination of the pins corresponds to the angle of the thread so that the nuts are not subject to axial loads and enable locking in the exact position.
The main difference between KMT and KMTA nuts lies in the shape of the nut tightening. While the KMT nut can be fitted with a hook spanner or an open-end spanner, the KMTA nut is fitted with a head spanner.
Hydraulic nuts from the HMV... E, HMVC... E
BGL hydraulic nuts are available in metric fine pitch, trapezoidal or inch threads and are mainly used for mounting and dismounting bearings with a tapered bore. The bearings can be mounted on adapter or withdrawal sleeves or directly on a tapered shaft. The hydraulic nut makes work easier as it is mounted without impacts and therefore increases the service life. BGL hydraulic nuts are operated using a BGL hydraulic hand pump to ensure the required tightening torque. Conventional methods such as hook spanners and hammers do not achieve this. This significantly reduces assembly and disassembly times.
The HMV...E hydraulic nut consists of a threaded body with dial gauge and M6 nylon screw for fastening, a piston, a plug and a washer, a cylinder head spanner, an O-ring set and other spare parts.
BGL supplies hydraulic nuts for shaft diameters from 50 to 1000 mm. These are indispensable as they ensure perfect and safe control of the bearing clearance during installation and make assembly easier and faster.
Locking plates from the MB and MBL series
Locknuts must be secured against possible loosening and unscrewing on the shaft. Special locking elements are used for this purpose. The lock washers from the MB and MBL series are simple and reliable elements for securing smaller locknuts, such as those from the KM and KML series. They have one inner and several outer tabs that are evenly distributed around the circumference. The inner tab engages in the groove of the adapter sleeve or shaft, while one of the outer tabs is bent into a groove in the nut to secure it. The plates are made of steel with a tensile strength of at least 300 N/mm2.
Locking clips of the MS series
The adapter sleeves for bearings are supplied complete with locknuts and lock washers. If the locknuts are larger, locking brackets are used instead of lock washers.
The locking brackets of the MS series are attached to the locknut with a hexagon head screw. They are inserted into the slot of the nut on one side and into the groove of the clamping sleeve or shaft on the other. Fastening screws up to size M16 have self-locking threads; from size M20 upwards, standardised hexagon head screws and a locking element are used. The locking brackets are used with the locknuts of the HM30 and HM31 design series.
Hydraulic hand pumps BH 100-0.7, BH 100-0.7 D, BH 160, BH 160-4.8
BGL has developed manual hydraulic pumps with three functions that are suitable for mounting and dismounting bearings and sleeves. The use of these pumps is versatile and enables maintenance mechanics to use them according to the maintenance activities of machines and systems.
The BGL hydraulic pump is a two-speed device. The first stage provides a high flow at low pressure. The second stage is characterised by a low flow at high pressure and is automatically adapted to the increasing load resistance in the hydraulic system. This allows the force to be increased without the equipment operator having to exert more force. The pump has a safety valve that limits the pressure to prevent damage to the equipment. The valve is controlled by a manual relief valve mounted on the side of the pump head and has only one threaded hole for oil outlet/inlet.
The hydraulic manual pump set is suitable for mounting and dismounting bearings. It pushes the oil from the reservoir into the connected sleeve, making it easy to move heavy bearings using hydraulic tools such as hydraulic sockets, hydraulic nuts and extension tubes.
Hook spanners of the HN series
The extensive range of BGL spanners in the HN series enables the fastening and loosening of various types and sizes of shaft nuts that are either mounted directly on the shaft or on a sleeve. Depending on the application and bearing size, BGL spanners can be used to drive a bearing onto a tapered seat. By using a hook spanner, the bearings are properly tightened, which is an important factor for a long bearing life. An optimum fit prevents damage to the shaft nut.
The HN series comprises 38 hook spanners of different sizes in accordance with the DIN 1810 standard. The hook spanners are suitable for BGL KM nuts and all other nuts to DIN 981. They are also suitable for use with KMK, KMFE and KMT nuts as well as nuts to DIN 1804 standard. The hook spanners are made from SAE 1045 carbon steel, which is heat-treated and black oxidised. The laser-engraved abbreviation facilitates identification and selection.
Extension tubes from the TE series
These tools are high-pressure pipes with a 1/4" BSP female threaded coupling at one end and a male thread at the other. Depending on the application, they can be fitted with the following threads: M4, M6, M8, G1/8" or G1/4". The extension tubes are long and narrow, making them suitable for connecting between the sometimes thin hydraulic adapter or withdrawal sleeve walls in order to use the hydraulic hand pump.
Extension tubes are used to support hydraulic adapter and withdrawal sleeves equipped with oil feed holes and oil distribution grooves when the pressurised oil method is used. This makes disassembly of the bearing considerably easier, especially after prolonged use.
CL series feeler gauge sets
BGL offers a wide range of feeler gauge sets to fulfil bearing installation requirements. The feeler gauge set enables a quick and accurate check of the radial internal clearance during and after mounting, especially for spherical and cylindrical roller bearings. One set consists of 17 feeler gauges, which are available in 2 different lengths: 100 mm and 300 mm. Feeler gauge sets contain 17 blades and can measure the thickness of objects between 0.02 and 1.00 millimetres. As these sets are metric or imperial, their individual sizes are marked on each blade to make selection easier. Metric feeler gauge sets are made of carbon steel and, with proper care and storage, provide accurate measurements and high wear resistance.
BGL technologies
BGL standard collets and adapter sleeves are manufactured for metric cylindrical smooth shafts with a diameter of 17 to 1,400 mm. In addition, these sleeves have a threaded part for a locking nut with a metric thread for metric shafts with a diameter of up to 180 mm and a trapezoidal thread for shafts with a diameter of 200 mm and above.

At BGL, different materials are used in the various product groups. The selection of these materials is based on the relevant standards. The technical properties and values are at least complied with and - where technically uncritical - usually far exceeded. The standards stipulate the following minimum tensile strengths:
- Clamping sleeves according to DIN 5415: 430 N/mm2
- Withdrawal sleeves according to DIN 5416: 430 N/mm2
- Lock washers to DIN 5406: 300 N/
- mm2 Locknuts to DIN 981: 350 N/mm2
Thanks to decades of experience in this field, BGL has developed a unique alloy for the manufacture of sleeves and locknuts for rolling bearings in accordance with DIN 1563, grade GJS 500-7, formerly GGG50. This material has been improved to achieve an even higher tensile strength than required by international DIN and ISO standards. In addition, this material is stronger than rolled steel to SAE 1020. BGL recommends specifying sleeves in Nodular (ductile) due to its higher quality properties, but other materials such as carbon steel or stainless steel can be used on customer request.
